What's Beneath The Surface?

Another tunnel for Mexican smugglers has been discovered by the Border Patrol in Tecate, California. An agent on routine patrol discovered the tunnel when his drug-sniffing dog reacted to the smell of marijuana several hundred feet away.

A news article states that few people have been prosecuted for activities related to the construction of these tunnels. However, a federal law enacted this year makes it a felony to design or build one, or to participate in smuggling involving it.

Although the primary purpose of these tunnels appears to be drug smuggling, it would be just as easy to use them to bring people and/or weapons into the US. Once again, the government shows itself to be lax and apathetic about the security of American citizens.
