Carter's Chance For Hamas Yields Results

Hamas says it will not recognize the new government that will be sworn in by Mahmoud Abbas today. Abbas disbanded the coalition, fired Ismail Haniyeh and appointed finance minister Salam Fayyad as the new prime minister on Thursday.

On Saturday accused Hamas militiamen looted the home of former Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat in Gaza City. "They stole almost everything inside the house, including Arafat's Nobel Peace Prize medal," said Ramallah-based Fatah spokesman Ahmed Abdel Rahman.

Remember, it was only last year that the all knowing Jimmy Carter said Hamas deserved to be recognized by the international community, despite the group's militant history. "They told me they want to have a peaceful administration. They want to have a unity government, bring in Fatah members and independent members."

I wish Jimmy was there, in the thick of it, right now. Then, he could reason with Hamas and remind them of their promises.

The truth is this pretend government has been a car wreck waiting to happen all along. The idiots like Carter who believe that you can make a silk purse from a sow's ear are now seeing the results. However, their spin will be to blame the US and Israel, not the hate filled, violence addicted Palestinians in Gaza.

It was, however, heartwarming to see Arafat's picture trampled
underfoot and his peace prize stolen by his own legacy.
