The Appendix, More Than Just A Spare Part

From CNN comes word that scientists at Duke University Medical School think they may have figured out the what the appendix does. It produces and protects good germs for your gut.

So what else may be out there that is not superfluous and causing mankind nothing but irritation? Does the mosquito have a beneficial side?

Maybe the scientists at Duke University need to study one of the last great liberal mammoths, Teddy Kennedy, before he becomes extinct. Any day now he may drunkenly wander into the La Brea Tar Pits while trying to find his way to a watering hole in Los Angeles. Or he may fall off a curb while hunting prey in the gutters of DC.

Is it possible he is more than a useless, infection prone, appendage of the liberal body? Somehow I doubt that science can justify his existence.
