Football, Churchill, Let's Call the Whole Thing Off

University of Colorado President Elizabeth Hoffman announced Monday that she is resigning amid a football recruiting scandal and a national controversy over professor who compared victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to a Nazi.

Hoffman, who has served as president for five years, told the Board of Regents in a letter that her resignation is effective June 30 or whenever the board names a successor.

"It appears to me it is in the university's best interest that I remove the issue of my future from the debate so that nothing inhibits CU's ability to successfully create the bright future it so deserves," Hoffman wrote.

Let's give Churchill the future he deserves also!

Calling the Kettle Black

This is worth a few laughs. Democrats are yelling about reporter Hiawatha Bray of the Boston Globe who criticized Kerry's campaign on the internet while he was also covering the race.
Former Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, a close Kerry friend, said in a written statement, "As someone who has seen what the right wing can do to destroy people and how the media can be complicit, I just can't get over the fact a reporter at a major a major newspaper was smearing John Kerry and he isn't even held accountable. Why does he have a job?"
Cleland, where were you when all your media buddies at the NY and LA Times and CBS etc. were doing their best to smear President Bush? Shut the hell up you Kerry jackal.

Hugo the Mad

Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan nut job, tried to give himself some importance on the world stage.
He renewed a threat on Friday to halt oil supplies to the United States if Washington "hurts" the Latin American country.

Relations between Venezuela, which exports the bulk of its oil to the United States, and Washington have been badly strained since Chavez last month accused Washington of plotting to have him assassinated.

"If there is any aggression, there will be no oil," Chavez, who arrived in New Delhi on a four-day visit to India told journalists, the Press Trust of India reported.

"We want to supply oil to the US. We're not going to avoid this supply of oil unless the US government gets a little bit crazy and tries to hurt us," he said after a ceremonial welcome at the presidential palace. If there's one thing Hugo knows it's crazy, he and Fidel being the leading candidates for the Latin American mental health poster boy.

The US state department has dismissed Chavez's accusations that Washington is seeking to have him killed as "ridiculous and untrue".

Venezuela is the world's fifth-biggest oil exporter and is among the largest suppliers to the United States.

Chavez, who is on a trip to India where energy will top the agenda, began alleging Washington was planning his death after the United States criticised some of his government's actions as "deeply troubling".

Earlier this month, Chavez told a news conference in Uruguay that the United States would not receive a drop of oil if he were killed.

Reality does not seem to faze senor Chavez...yet.

Go Gibbon's, Go

Read this article from the Elko Daily Free Press.

The left will be whining about this for sure but nothing about Robert KKK Byrd comparing Repub;icans to Nazis.

Patriotic spirits soared as Elko's Grand Old Party had a grand old party Friday night at its annual Lincoln Day Dinner.

The fervor was whipped up by a fiery speech by Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., during which he passionately proclaimed his heartfelt support for troops waging the war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan and voiced blistering contempt for certain celebrities for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.

Gibbons said he was dedicating his remarks to the "brave young men and women who are serving on the front lines" in what he termed World War III.

"We do so tonight, I believe, with the thoughts and prayers for the soldiers who are defending freedom around the world," he said. "Let's keep ourselves aware that this is a country at war today."

The Republican faithful listened intently while Gibbons spoke about the war in Iraq.

Loud applause erupted when Gibbons said, "Tonight, I say we should support our President and the United States military in their efforts to defend freedom around the world."

Gibbons said the dinner was also a celebration of President Abraham Lincoln and that his philosophy had stood the test of history and applied in today's troubled times.

He said Lincoln understood better than most that unity and solidarity "best comes from dogged adherence to the Constitution and defense of liberty."

Gibbons segued into an attack on "liberals," who he said were trying to divide the unity of the country in a time of war.

He wondered what Lincoln's feelings would be at this juncture of American history.

"How would he feel, what would he be thinking about, all of the dissension, all of the division, that the liberals and a few others, including some our movie stars and song makers, are trying to divide this country over its efforts to establish freedom and liberty in countries around the world?" Gibbons questioned.

Gibbons answered with his own thoughts on the issue.

"We are all here tonight because men and women of the United States military have given their lives for our freedom," Gibbons continued. "We are here tonight not because of Rosie O'Donnell, Martin Sheen, George Clooney, Jane Fonda or Phil Donahue - they never sacrificed their lives for us or for liberty."

Gibbons said it was not movie stars but soldiers and sailors that defended freedom in the deserts of Iraq, the jungles of Vietnam, the sands of Iwo Jima and the beaches of Normandy.

"I say we tell those liberal, tree-hugging, Birkenstock-wearing, hippie, tie-dyed liberals to go make their movies and their music and whine somewhere else," Gibbons said to another burst of applause.

He said if they lived in Iraq or Afghanistan, "Ironically they would be put to death at the hands of Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden."

Gibbons brought the crowd to near feverish pitch when he hit the hot button issue of abortion.

"I want to know how these very people who are against war because of loss of life can possibly be the same people who are for abortion?" Gibbons said. "They are the same people who are for animal rights, but they are not for the rights of the unborn."

He said that they are the same people who wanted to go to Iraq and become human shields for the enemy.

"I say it's just too damn bad we didn't buy them a ticket," Gibbons said.

Laughter rippled through the room, mingled with more applause.

"If they want to be human shields, I say let them serve the men and women of honest integrity that epitomize courage and embody the spirit of freedom by wearing the proud uniform of the United States military," Gibbons said.

"What greater love has man than he lays down his life for his friend - or in this case, his country," Gibbons said in conclusion.

Thank you Representative Gibbons.

Dan, Don't Let the Door Hit You

I'm not retiring, I'm changing jobs," the 73-year-old Dan Rather said in a phone interview. Still, when he was asked what he could yet do in his career to make viewers forget about his role in a flawed story last year on President Bush's military service " I can't," he said softly. But he added quickly that he believed Americans would eventually reach what he considered the right verdict about his legacy.
Dan, get over it. You blew your legacy in your fervor to crucify an innocent man. American's can forgive mistakes but not the deliberate attempy to frame, convict and sentence.
"It is not right to judge an entire career [by one error], as awful and systemic a failure as this was," said NBC's Williams. "One error does not a career make."
This is the kind of hooey that makes American's even angrier. A mistake or error requires innocent misunderstanding. That was not the case here. You see Dan, in your zeal to hang the president you chose not to follow procedures and use good judgement. You knew better but chose to cast caution to the wind in your unbridled fervor to hurt George Bush.
That brazen misuse of journalistic power has poisoned whatever legacy you may have had and there is no "fixing" it. Head down, no lines, exit stage left.

The Fox So Cunning...

Mexican President Vicente Fox said Friday he hoped to make progress on immigration issues when he meets with President Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin later this month. Progress ? Millions of illegals being rewarded for breaking our laws is not progress. You, Vincente, paying back the American taxpayer for the costs incurred because of your refusal to reform your peasant punishing political system, that would be progress.
A top priority for Fox is to obtain a U.S. immigration agreement that would give temporary work permits to millions of illegalMexicans living and working in the United States. This is unacceptable. If President Bush tries to sell us out he must be held accountable.

Tekel

Yesterday on Newswatch, Cal Thomas wondered about the attention given to Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, Martha Stewart etc. rather than the important issues. He's right.
Why all the media focus on items that ultimately don't matter and have no bearing on the future of this nation?
While our rights, culture, sovereignty, prosperity etc. are being sold down the river we allow ourselves to be distracted by freaks, charlatans, modern day alchemists and court jesters.
We are being weighed in the balances and will be found wanting. The Medes are digging a trench that will let them invade our city and we are partying.
"And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified." Daniel 5:23

Fix the Fraud

A new bill is in the works, to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens.
Considering the abuse of people sneaking into this country to have their babies, something needs to be done to prevent this end run around the law. It was never intended for American citizenship to be obtained by breaking the immigration laws and making a mockery of due process.
At least some of our representatives are doing their jobs, now let's see they are supported in this attempt to fix a problem.

Syriaously, It's Assad Day

"President" Bashar al-Assad of Syria is in trouble. Two allies - Saudi Arabia, once a financier of Syria, and Russia, their main arms dealer - have told him to withdraw his troops from Lebanon.

Assad flew to Saudi Arabia yesterday in search of a face-saving deal out of Lebanon.

Saudis said he was given the "cold shoulder" by Crown Prince Abdullah, who told him to remove his 14,000 troops "immediately".

The Saudis, who have been distancing themselves from Syria for several months, were outraged by the assassination last month of the former Lebanese prime minister, Rafik al-Hariri, who was close to the Saudi royal family.

Last night, Saudi officials virtually accused Damascus of killing Mr Hariri. Riyadh is now lending its weight to Lebanese mass protests that have forced out the pro-Syrian cabinet, and to calls by America and France to pull all soldiers and intelligence officers out of Lebanon.

Syria has long regarded Lebanon as its own territory, and Assad has so far given only vague promises to withdraw "within months".

Gulf officials say he has been seeking Arab support for a slow withdrawal after elections in Lebanon, and the right to keep remnants of his forces there as well as early warning stations supposedly as a defence against Israel.

But one Saudi official said yesterday: "The Syrians do not need any Arab intervention. The Lebanese government is pro-Syrian and answers to Syria's call. All the Syrians have to do is give the green light for the Lebanese to request them to leave. They are just dragging their feet."

Prince Abdullah also turned down a Syrian proposal for Saudi officials to lead the investigation into Mr Hariri's murder. "We feared it was a trap," said one Saudi source.

President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt is due to visit Damascus in the coming days, and officials in Cairo seem more willing to give the Syrians some political cover. "We want them to respect international law, but we don't want to humiliate them," said an Egyptian source. "They have said they plan to leave. We don't have to spit in their faces."

Not even Russia is standing up for one of its oldest Arab allies. Russia's foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, told the BBC: "Syria should withdraw from Lebanon." He added, however: "We all have to make sure this withdrawal does not violate the very fragile balance we still have in Lebanon, which is a very difficult country ethnically."

In Lebanon, the political crisis has intensified. Following the resignation of the prime minister, Omar Karami, the opposition has called for security chiefs to follow suit, and for Mr Assad to order Syrian troops to respect a United Nations resolution last year to leave the country.

The opposition has also tried to sideline the pro-Syrian president, Emile Lahoud, by opening direct negotiations with two key Syrian allies - the Shia groups, Amal and Hizbollah. A joint statement by pro-Syrian parties called for "the formation of a national unity government".

"The Syrians are finding it increasingly difficult to find support from their traditional Arab backers," said one Gulf source, "Not even Libya's Muammar Gaddafi is their friend any more."

If they don't have even Gaddafi to call on, it is indeed a sad day for Bashar al-Assad. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Send the Bill to Fox

Last week, I attended an economic focus meeting at one of our nearby cities. Part of the information handed out indicated that a local hospital had incurred expenses of about $450,000 annually, in recent years, due to treating illegals.
Think about it, that's one small border hospital. Multiply it many times to cover all the facilities in all the other border states.
Let's send those bills to Vincente and make him pay for his countrymen.
By the way, this does not include all the Mexican nationals we legally treat out of compassion because their own Mexico cannot or will not care for them. Why we're doing this when we have Americans with inadequate health care is a whole other issue.

Father and Son Run for the Border

Here's an interesting border incident. This happened in Harlingen, Texas not far from Brownsville and the, you guessed it, Mexican border.
A man linked to an armed robbery in Philadelphia who was attempting to flee to Mexico was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol agents near the bus station Thursday morning.

Chuck Roberson, assistant chief of the Border Patrol’s McAllen Sector, said that agents were conducting routine checks at the bus station in the 200-block of East Monroe Avenue when they approached two men waiting for a Mexico-bound bus. As agents questioned the men, the younger man ran off, Roberson said.

The men, whose names were not released, are believed to be a father and his 20-year-old son from Philadelphia. The men are Palestinian resident immigrants legally living in Philadelphia, Roberson said.

Palestinians, isn't that interesting. These guys sure came a long way to do work that Americans won't; but, wait, it gets better.

“The agent lost the suspect in a neighborhood in Harlingen,” Cervantes said. “At approximately noon, agents and Harlingen police officers observed the suspect on east Morgan Street, near the bus station. He was arrested and taken to the station to determine his nationality.”

Roberson said the father would be released, but FBI spokesman Rene Salinas said the son is wanted in connection with an armed robbery in Philadelphia and said the man would likely be arraigned in federal court today.

Salinas said it was highly unlikely that the pair were involved in any terrorist activity, but said the incident is still under investigation.

Why is the father going to be released if we haven't determined for certain if there is any terrorist activity? Did the father know about the armed robbery? If so, then he would be involved in the son's escape attempt. Are they both following all the requirements of legally registered aliens?

It seems like we're way too unconcerned with what aliens, both legal and illegal, are doing in our country.

Fool Me Once Shame on You, Fool me Twice Shame on Me

It looks like we can't wait for the enemy to sock it to us again but this time it will be our own fault.
"The southern border is literally under siege, and there is a real possibility that terrorists -- particularly al Qaeda forces -- could exploit this series of holes in our law-enforcement system along the southern border," said Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz, Texas Democrat, testifying before the House immigration subcommittee.
Mr. Ortiz said that is particularly worrisome given the increase in "other than Mexicans," or OTMs, which is how border and immigration law-enforcement agencies refer to illegal immigrants from countries other than Mexico.
While Mexicans routinely are sent back across the border, non-Mexicans are processed and then, if no criminal record or terrorist background immediately is discovered, usually released in the United States under their promise to return for a deportation hearing.
Most never show up, witnesses testified yesterday.
"The more OTMs we release, the more we encourage their crossing in the first place," Mr. Ortiz said. "Until we have the resources we need -- the border patrol agents, the detention facilities and the appropriate technology -- to accurately screen these immigrants, they are going to continue to enter the country."
Mr. Ortiz said about 5 percent of captured illegal immigrants in fiscal year 2003 were OTMs, and there has been a 137 percent increase in OTMs this fiscal year.
T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, said that by his reading Mr. Bush's proposed budget actually funds only 105 agents. He said while there's enough money to cover 210 positions, the budget document itself calls for only 105 full-time positions.
"It's a shell game, is all it is," he said.
Asked by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas, the top Democrat on the committee, what the lack of funding would mean, Mr. Bonner said it was "just asking for another 9-11."
"We are just sticking our chin out and asking the terrorists to take a poke at us," he said.
The clarion call has sounded. We need to be in the field. Contact your representatives and our president. Tell them we will not tolerate another 9/11 caused by their failure to take proper measures. Secure our borders.

Another Kennedy for Amerika

Anthony Kennedy, traitor supreme, interprets our constitution based on international "law". Great article on this in the WSJ Opinion Journal.
This left wing nut job is trying to impose his own personal belief system over the will of the people and in spite of our constitution.

Byrd's Braying Again

Robert "Klansman" Byrd, dummocrat from West Virginia is now trying to deny he has compared the Republicans to Nazis.

The first criticism of Byrd came Wednesday when Matt Brooks, executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition, issued a written statement.

"With his knowledge of history and his own personal background as a KKK member, he should be ashamed for implying that his political opponents are using Nazi tactics," Brooks said.

Of course, Byrd had a spokesman since it is obviously too dangerous to let the senile old bigot speak for himself.
The rest of the story here.

Sonny and Chair

One day after the supremes gave us another "hit" decision, no electric chair for killers under 18, guess what?
A school bus driver was shot to death as she drove her route Wednesday morning and a male student was taken into custody, authorities said. No students were hurt.
The murderer is 15 years old, so I guess he won't have to worry about paying for the crime. We'll send him away just long enough to get a good criminal education and then we'll turn him loose on society.
Thanks, supremes, your infinite lack of wisdom shines through once again.

Bier Me

Is this unbelievable or what?
SHEBOYGAN, Wisconsin (AP) -- A woman accused of digging up and taking her boyfriend's cremated remains more than a decade ago -- and drinking the beer that was buried with them -- was sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Read the whole thing at CNN.

American Gaza Strip

Remember the tunnels in Gaza used by terrorists to smuggle weapons and explosives past the Israelis? Here you go.
Federal authorities from San Diego are investigating a border tunnel discovered by Mexican authorities over the weekend, it was reported Monday.
They think this has been used to bring drugs into the US but what's to prevent chemicals or bombs or terrorists from following?
How much more will we tolerate?

Remove No, Eliminate Yes

I almost forgot to mention this one.
ICE detention and removal officers deported a man to El Salvador February who had been convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. The assault resulted in the girl becoming pregnant.
Eligio Hernandez-Zepeda, 40, of El Salvador, illegally entered the United States in 1990. He was arrested for the crime in Schuyler, Neb., in July 1997 and was convicted in April 1998 of first-degree sexual assault. He was sentenced to a term of not less than 10 years and not more than 15 years.
“Targeting people like Hernandez-Zepeda is a top priority for us,” said Scott Baniecke, St. Paul Field Office Director of the ICE Office of Detention and Removal Operations. “Those who victimize the most vulnerable among us will be sought out, apprehended and removed.”
Top priority? Removed? How about by lethal injection? How long before this mad dog is out and sneaking across our border again? How about this little girl whose life has been forever scarred by this animal?
Why aren't these incidents being publicized? Who's afraid of the public outcry? Can't we squeeze these news items in or is the supposed "abuse" of terrorists taking up too much room?
Some liberal kook will be looking to get this guy a job at the UN.

Would a Driver's License Have Helped?

One person died when a sedan full of suspected illegal immigrants rolled over in Sonoita on Monday morning.
Three helicopters were needed to evacuate the injured. How much did this cost the taxpayers?
Or how about this? For the second time in as many days, a smuggler hauling six illegal entrants was arrested after a chase that ended in Tucson.
Or this? During fiscal year 2004, which ended Sept. 30, ICE detention and removal agents removed 3,152 criminal aliens and status violators from a five-state area that includes Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Of that number, 1,488 were classified as criminal aliens for having been convicted of such crimes as drug offenses, assault and battery, armed robbery, rape and fraud.
Tip of the stetson to American Patrol Report.
What is the government good for? Absolutely nothing!

Beirut Hits a Homerun

The pro-Syrian government has fallen. Good going, Lebanon.
Is the freedom bug catching on in the Middle East? My opinion is, it's a little too soon to tell but things are looking up. This part of the world is a hard read and much as I would like to believe that liberty is looming over the horizon, there are too many factors and unknowns to make that call conclusively. Bush has definitely stirred the cauldron but I'm not sure what's brewing in there yet.
