The Color Of Frozen Assets

By way of The Times-Picayune comes word that on Al Sharpton's radio show Tuesday, William Jefferson suggested there was a racial motive in the case against him, particularly in the May 20th raid of his Capitol Hill office.

"In 219 years, not one member's office has ever been raided," Jefferson said. "When the first one raided is an African-American's, it does require some investigators being very careful to see why in this case it is being treated differently."

Sure, and I suppose it was the Klan that planted the $90,000 in your freezer, William, divided among various frozen food containers. Or was that where you kept your savings because you don't trust how the banks take care of black folks' money?

This kind of nonsense is encouraged by people like Sharpton and many on the Black Caucus. Their initial inclination is to play the race card before the facts are aired and confirmed. I would say that if Jefferson is found guilty it will reflect poorly on them, but I don't know how Sharpton could possibly sink any lower.

Jefferson, like any other American, deserves his fair day in court. Let him have it, but when you're caught hiding $90,000 in your fridge at home, the only color issue is where did you get the green?!
