Environmentalist Hazardous Manure

From FOXNews comes word that a confederacy of environmentalist looneys is after our nation's farmers. What's their cause celebre?

That animal manure is a hazardous substance. Yes, that's right, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, and Union of Concerned Scientists are arguing that farms should be treated as industrial waste sites and therefore subject to severe penalties under the federal Superfund law.

If they succeed, farmers could face penalties of many millions of dollars and thousands of small farmers could be forced off their land.

It's a ploy by the activists and trial lawyers to distort the intent of the law, so they can shake down the farmers and ranchers and benefit from large court settlements.

Congress can fix the problem by passing an amendment to the Superfund law, clarifying that farm manure is not considered a hazardous substance. A bipartisan bill to this effect has already been introduced in the House with nearly 160 co-sponsors. A companion bill with bipartisan support is about to be introduced in the Senate.

Now, if it were only so easy to fix the problem of the hazardous pollution from shyster trial lawyers and environmentalist looney birds.
