Last Pope?

Now that we will be getting a new pope, will there be renewed interest in the prophecies of St. Malachy?

The Irish Bishop supposedly predicted the succession of popes from Celestine II to "the end of times" and that would mean the next pope is the last one.

Then there's the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 and if I'm not mistaken something in the Bible code about a comet striking the earth the same year. Hmm, enough to make one sit back and reflect.

So should I not worry about transferring our IRA's to tax-deffered annuities or not?

Bah. End times prophecies are as old as... the idea of the end times. They don't exactly have the best record as far as accuracy is concerned. Kudos for noticing, though.

Actually according to St. Malachy, the next pope is not the last one. The next pope is called the glory of the olive. Some interpret what he says about this pope to say that it will be a Black man. The last pope is after this one and he is called Peter of Rome, the first shall be the last and the last shall be the first. Some believe this will be St. Peter reincarnate. He will feed his sheep amongst great tribulation.

Jay, I am certainly no expert on this stuff but isn't it also thought by some that this final Peter of Rome will be the anti-pope which is why the next pope is the last real pope?
