Minutemen, Just a Second

See the article at Fox News regarding the civilian patrolling of our southern border.

The failure of our government to protect our sovereignty, our citizens and their property has led to a situation ripe for even more problems. I live in this area of southeastern Arizona, so I know firsthand how severe the invasion has become. At the same time, I am more than willing to allow our law enforcement to address the problem. But, what are we to do when funds are not allotted to support our Border Patrol and when no attempt is made to prevent those apprehended from returning? Our president winks at the problem, refusing to acknowledge it and permits the Mexican president and other officials to denigrate any attempt by the USA to protect itself.
If our representatives are more interested in protecting illegal aliens than legitimate citizens, then the people have not only the right but the duty to protect this land themselves.

Yes, Toni local pols are just as guilty. We have some support but not much. Don't get me wrong, I voted for Bush, donated to the campaign and am certainly glad he won. I just feel he's flat out wrong on this issue and I don't like the fact that he seems so cozy with Fox.
He is our leader and he has sworn to uphold the constitution. That and the fact that he is commander and chief certainly makes him culpable on this border issue.
Harold, I'm with you 100%. We need to prosecute the employers of illegals and make it painful.

Right on Bob. I agree with all of you. This is a problem our politicians are just winking at. But I was thinking, what if we were to reduce some welfare benefits? This way, Americans on welfare would have a bigger incentive to go back to work, and illegals would have less of an incentive to sneak in here knowing they won't get all the freebies.

OK Zelda, cut it out. You're reading my mind. That's the next step. Those jobs that are available once you push the illegals out of them? They get offered to our healthy welfare recipients. If they don't take them, no benefits. Honest, low paying work is better than charity. We need to bring back the concept of shame when it comes to taking handouts.

Rome fell because of illegal immigration, which the Romans overlooked for precisely the same reasons we overlook our problem; cheap labor is very appealing. I don`t see Rome around anymore. We have to deal with this issue, and soon!

The short lived Republic of Texas maintained at least some control of their borders with a few measly Rangers on horseback patrolling. I do not believe for a minute that the borders can`t be sealed. You are right, Toni and Harold; we have to stop playing games and attack this thing aggressively.

Yes, Timothy, and we need to make our voices heard, loud and clear that we will not stand idly by and accept the demise of this great nation.
