We Stand on Guard for Thee, O Canada

So, our pals to the north have made it clear they don't want to participate in the missile defense of North America. Well, that's not what they really want, they expect the cowboy Americans to rush to their aid if a missile approaches Canadian air space.
Yup, that Yankee wild bunch is great to have nearby but once they clear the town of desperadoes who wants them hanging around? They might attract more trouble.
Well, where I come from if you choose not to participate, you shouldn't expect any benefit from the program. Let the Canadians stand on guard for themselves.

Thanks for the comment, Assassin Elektra, it look like we're neighbors.

Here here Bobby G. I am just beside myself when it comes to the clowns running my country. Our Prime Minister actually said that he expects to be consulted before the US shoots down any incoming missiles given the sovereignty of Canadian airspace. Oh yeah, that's gonna happen: "Mr. Prime Minister, it would appear that a few ICBMs will obliterate Seattle, Chicago and New Year in about 17 minutes time, permission to shoot them down before they reach US airspace?" Can you say something rotten in the state of Canada?

The reality of the situation though is that the Liberals are playing a shell game with the people, for although they say they are not publicly particiapting, they already are through our military partnership at Norad. They want to be able to say they are and they aren't, and they'll twist themselves into a pretzel in order to win a greater cross section of popular support.

The same was true in Iraq, for we participated in the Iraq War with our ships, aircraft and personel in that theatre (the second in command of all coalition forces is a Canadian believe it or not), but the Liberals official position was that they were not involved in order to placate the pacifist quarter of Canada, namely the Province of Quebec. It's kinda like Nixon was never in Cambodia, but we all know he was.

The bottom line is that official Canada pokes its eye at America, whereas the practical reality of the matter is no different from our traditional position as a reliable ally. Quebec has always been a real conundrum in Canadian politics; America has always supported a unified country north of your border, but I would start taking a different position if I were an American, because our constant need to pander to them is starting to undermine the security concerns of the United States.

Thanks Monarchist, you make several good points. I'm always appreciative of people with first hand knowledge of a situation sharing their viewpoint.
What happens if the pandering to Quebec stops?

Thanks for adding me to your site. I've bookmarked you and will blogroll you as well just as soon as I can get my stuff in order here.

To answer your question, the Canadian West (the equivalent of your Middle America) gets more influence given that they always carry a healthy amount of smelling salt as you so aptly put it. Lotsa oil, cowboys and common sense out that way. They are profoundly antagonistic with the Liberal status quo as am I.

I feel the blogosphere is starting to challenge the persistent spew coming from the MSM and frustrating the political elite's pretension that they speak for us. We are at the cusp of soemthing great here.

Thanks for answering my question, Monarchist. I have been to western Canada only once. I spent a week in Victoria and loved it.
I do hope you're right about the blogosphere.
I really enjoy your input, thanks for participating.
