I Hear Footsteps Getting Closer

OK, how close do they have to get before we shut the borders down. If they're in Nicaragua, they may as well be in San Diego. What is the government waiting for?

Nicaragua’s National Police have declared an alert for two suspected members of the al Qaida terrorist network, officials said today.

An Interior Ministry news release identified the two as Ahmad Salim Swaydan, who was suspected of involvement in an April 2002 plot against the US Embassy in Thailand, and a Yemeni man known only as Altuwiti.

A photo released by Nicaraguan authorities matched that of a man on the FBI’s most-wanted terrorist list: Sheikh Ahmed Salim Swedan, a 36-year-old Kenyan who was indicted on December 16, 1998, for alleged involvement in the 1998 bombings of US Embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

The US State Department has offered a reward of up to £2.7 million for information leading to his arrest.

Nicaragua’s Interior Department said it had imposed an ”immigration alert” at all border posts.

“We must guarantee that our country is not the scene for the presence of elements linked to international terrorism or organised crime,” the department said.
