Polygamy, The Next Cause Of The ACLU?

Each time the ACLU wins a point, it is only one step in a long journey. Now, that they're gaining on same sex marriage, the next step is polygamy. What's after that, marriage with children, siblings and pets? Compromise leads to more compromise and before you know it we'll be sanctioning carnal knowledge of items people keep in their pantrys and crispers. We must draw the line in the sand and stop the madness now.

David Frum, a scholar for the American Enterprise Institute, remarked, "Today, the people who are advocates of same-sex marriage are denying that polygamy is ever going to come up. But this is not a prediction. This is an observation. It is already coming up “

Even the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has weighed in. The president of the ACLU recently said that they support "the freedom of choice for mature, consenting individuals," and that polygamy is one of the "fundamental rights" they will defend.

Actually, polygamy has a stronger claim to legality than does same-sex marriage. Polygamy was the norm in ancient times, and is still accepted in a number of places on Earth today (Saudi Arabia, for instance). Don`t forget the Mormons used to advocate polygamy. The same cannot be said for same-sex marriage; nowhere has it ever been acceptable historically, and only a few very corrupt places (like Sweden)currently recognize it.

You are absolutely right-it is a slippery slope. Gay marriage means that polygamists have a reasonable claim, which means that people who want to marry sheep, goats, elephants, zebras, hermaphrodites, cadavers, trees, flowers, shrubs, and miscellaneous home appliances have equal claim to ``marriage``.

When San Francisco began issuing marriage licences illegally, conservatives should have lined up with applications to marry all sorts of ridiculous things to illustrate the absurdity of what was happening. The left would have done something similar if the roles had been reversed. Since Schwarzenegger refused to do his duty and stop the illegal ``marriages``, the conservatives should have acted. Oh well, missed opportunity!

This actually divides many. I have a post I'll pull over from the old site soon on this. Many religions believe in polygamy, and it is a very debatable subject. Of course I think it is wrong hence my old post on it. Good job on this. I've got some good news in our fight up at my site.
