Why So Quiet Mr. Fox?

So, Senor Fox, if this is such an important part of Mexican culture that we in the States do not understand and respect, why are you not going to reissue?

This question should be asked of Fox at every media event until he steps up and admits the truth.

Last week, officials at the Mexican consulate confirmed that the country would not reissue its offensive stamps celebrating the Memin Pinguin comic strip. The cartoon, which features grotesque stereotypes of black characters, had created a massive controversy that Fox tried but failed to explain away.

To be sure, it would have been better had Fox been more forthcoming about his change of heart, and maybe even expressed regret for his earlier insensitivity. It would also have been worthwhile had he squarely addressed the latent racism that continues to infect much of his country.

I wonder how much they're going for on eBay.

The collectors must be grabbing everything in sight.
