Iran has termed as "unacceptable" President Jacques Chirac's declaration of France's right to use nuclear weapons against countries that carried out a terrorist attack against it.
The remarks made by Chirac were widely regarded as an indirect warning against Iran and its ambitions to expand its nuclear programs.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as saying that Chirac's comments had made the world public opinion more fearful, adding the French president had "revealed the inherent intentions behind of nuclear powers is using this leverage for political games".
If we read between the lines, was Jacques sending a message that the French might assist in the attack on Iran's nuclear facilities? This, then, would be a warning to Iran not to retaliate against France or face horrific consequences.
