According to WorldNetDaily, a woman claims she heard the man who drove into 14 people, killing one, in a violent hit-and-run rampage in San Francisco yesterday refer to himself as a terrorist.
Omeed Aziz Popal had recently come back from Afghanistan where he married an Afghan woman, a match arranged by his family. His wife had not joined him here because she as awaiting a visa.
The San Francisco Police Department has released a report saying this is not an act of terrorism, but has failed to provide evidence of how they arrived at that determination. It seems to be a quick and questionable decision especially since two of the victims were struck down in front of a Jewish Community Center.
Of course, this is northern California and Popal is a Muslim, so the desire to remove terrorism from the equation is quite strong.
And, there is the usual assortment of shocked family members, one cousin even suggesting the devil made him do it.
What is unsettling is the ongoing number of incidents of Muslim men carrying out acts of violence, while authorities deny they are acts of terrorism.
