Profile This #2
This is Jainal Antel Sali, Jr., aka Abu Solaiman, The Engineer, Abu Solajman, Abu Sulaiman, Abu Sulayman. He is a Philippine national and a member of Abu Sayyaf, a militant Islamic terrorist group with a claimed goal of creating a pan-Islamic superstate across southeast Asia. His dob is given as 6/1/64. He has black hair and brown eyes, but his height and weight are unknown by the FBI. He is known to be clean shaven and has visible acne scars.
Sali has a severe "V" gap between his front upper teeth and a distinctive "horse face" (jutting jaw line). He is well-educated, speaking Tausug, Tagalog, Arabic and English and is described as very religious. He travels to Saudi Arabia (what were the odds) and Malaysia.
According to the FBI, Jainal Antel Sali, Jr. was indicted in the District of Columbia, for his alleged involvement in terrorist acts against United States nationals and other foreign nationals in and around the Republic of the Philippines. Sali allegedly served as a spokesperson for the foreign terrorist organization, Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG). This organization of armed individuals allegedly took foreign nationals hostage and committed violent acts against them to include murder.
Sali is credited with planning the May 2001 Dos Palmas resort kidnapping in the Philippines. Twenty hostages, including Americans Martin Burnham, Gracia Burnham, and Guillermo Sobero were taken. During the movement of the hostages in June 2001 by the ASG, two hostages, who were foreign national employees of the resort, were beheaded (and you thought beheadings were peculiar to the Middle East). Later in June 2001, they beheaded American national Guillermo Sobero. As the FBI noted, Sali is very religious!
Most recently described as heading the Abu Sayyaf Urban Terrorist Group, an elite squad trained in terrorist bombings, Sali may have been wounded last year in a clash with Philippine armed forces.
The Rewards For Justice Program is offering a reward of up to $5 million for information leading directly to his apprehension or conviction.
